Why I Called for a DEI Boycott of Musk and Tesla in Front of Tesla’s Office

Earl Ofari Hutchinson

Good morning. I’m Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable. I’m standing now in West Los Angeles in front of, as you can see, his introduction, standing in front of the LA headquarters of Tesla. That’s right, Elon Musk, Tesla. Let me pan a little bit. As you can see, they got a pretty expansive location here. They got banners, they got posters, they got all the good Tesla stuff. All right, we’re here today because boycott, boycott, boycott, boycott, boycott, boycott.

That’s right. Elon Musk is boycotting us. Us. African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asian Americans, LGBTQ+, women in many cases, but especially people of color. Tesla. The attack, the assault on DEI by Elon Musk, and as a result of that, he’s making billions, billions and billions with Tesla. I mean, they’re a cash cow. Sales are down a little bit, and they should be. But last year, in 2024, over $100 billion in sales, we asked this, why should Musk, and Tesla, continue to profit off of racism? Because that’s what it is. Buying Teslas, leasing Teslas, have anything to do with that. Subsidizing, as with many other companies, racism. In this case, the face of racism Elon Musk.

Of course, Tesla is his cash cow. That’s his baby. That’s how he made his name, and that’s how he made his Fame. But yet and still, here’s a man, Musk, attacking every step of the way DEI. Diversity, inclusion, equity. Let’s do it again. Dei says it’s no good. Get rid of it. He calls it not DEI, but DEI. Die, die, die. Well, we’re saying for 24 hours on February 28th, through March first, die, Tesla. We’re giving it back to him, saying, Die, Tesla. You’re not going to profit off of racism. You’re not going to profit with our dollars while you essentially not only disparage African Americans and the Spanish, but you do something else. You essentially send the message that when it comes to hiring, promotion, in corporations across the board, people of color have no place. Why should we fatten your purse? Why should we fatten your pocketbook, Musk and Tesla? We’re calling for a boycott, 24-hour boycott at least. Send the message, Racism is not going to be with our dollars. A 24-hour boycott. It’s not unreasonable. In fact, it’s very, very doable. We have no illusions that somehow this is going to put Musk and Tesla out of business.

We’re not even trying to do that. We’re essentially saying, look, you can’t continue to profit, run amok as you’re doing, build your name even more. Got more money than God.

Why are you panning, promoting, and scanning racism and bigotry. Tesla is our target on boycott Friday. Musk. Send a message for Musk. Racism is not going to be subsidized with our dollars buying Tesla. I’m Earl Ofari Hutchinson. I’m in front, again, of the Tesla headquarters in Los Angeles. Sending a message, Musk, we’re coming after you. We’re coming after your pocketbook. We’re not going to continue to buy and subsidize, at least for one day.

It’s not too much to ask. Your product, your blood money product. That’s what it is. Blood in this case, not literally, but figuratively, namely, racism. Earl Ofari Hutchinson here. Hutchinson here. President, Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable in front of Tesla in LA. A boycott, challenging, frontally, calling out Musk. Rats right, racist Musk. Don’t buy Tesla at least one day. Do yourself a favor. And your pocketbook, too. Once again, Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable. A big message to Musk. Thanks again.
