Over the weekend, the 46th POTUS Joseph R. Biden, Jr. had made a decision. He decided after looking at the facts and figures that it was time to make a decision regarding his candidacy and the future of the nation and the Democratic Party.
He decided to bow out of the Presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the nomination as the next POTUS.
It wasn’t an easy decision. As a senior myself, 7 years younger than the President, I would find it very challenging myself to carry out the duties of this enormous office. After the debate I was worried that the President, if re-elected could make a serious mistake during a crisis. It would have serious implications for the nation and its citizens.
As someone who lived in California during her tenure as Attorney General, there were decisions that I wasn’t in favor of. However there were decisions that I did favor and they were outweighed by the negative.
As San Francisco district attorney, Harris vowed not to seek the death penalty, but as California attorney general, her office argued it should stand.*
In her 2019 memoir, “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey,” Harris observed, “America has a deep and dark history of people using the power of the prosecutor as an instrument of injustice.”*
During her tenure as the VP, at the beginning she made some mistakes, however she has since made progress and has handled her duties well. In addition, when she gets elected, she will join Claudia Sheinbaum (Mexico’s President-elect) as the Northern Hemisphere’s co-presidents. It will also signal a new dynamic in Mexican-American relations.
President Biden could see the future as Congresswoman Pelosi saw. It’s time for new leadership in the US.
