Thank You Chief Beck, Shame on Lacey and the L.A. Times

Everlasting Thanks to Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck for doing the right thing in recommending the prosecution of an LAPD officer who illegally and wantonly used deadly force against an unarmed African-American homeless man Brendon Glenn. And everlasting shame to L.A. District Attorney Jackie Lacey for totally abrogating her responsibility to protect citizens against police misconduct in rejecting Chief Beck’s recommendation to prosecute.

Also, I include in the everlasting shame, the L.A. Times for enabling Lacey with an editorial and a follow up article advocating measures in lieu of prosecution and its writers for ignoring advocates who have pressed the issue of Lacey’s irresponsibility in prosecuting police officers who wantonly and illegally overuse deadly force and presenting the views of legal experts who concoct legal somersaults to defend Lacey’s reprehensible and actions.

Former Attorney General Ramsey Clarke put it best when he noted: Even a failed prosecution of police officers who abuse citizens is vital. This sends the strong message that police offices who abuse their authority will be held accountable.

Again, thank you Chief Beck for your responsible and legally correct action to protect L.A. citizens.
