It’s a staggering, mind blowing figure. That is that more than one out of two children in many African nations and Haiti go to bed hungry every night. Hunger is truly a global plague.

But nowhere is that plague more heart breaking than when it impacts tens of millions of children in these impoverished, often war-torn nations. I wanted to do something in my small way about.it. I sought out agencies that are doing hard, in the trenches, often unrecognized work to combat hunger in these countries. With that aim in mind, I can say this.

The Hutchinson Fund is proud to announce its second annual Healthy Food for Live Project to combat the massive rise in hunger globally and especially in Africa and Haiti. This year The Hutchinson Fund provided one thousand healthy, nutritious meals to children in Haiti that have suffered the worst from the hunger crisis. “My hope is that our modest effort will be the difference between health and even life,” says The Hutchinson Fund founder Earl Ofari Hutchinson, “for many of the neediest, impoverished and grossly underserved families in Haiti and globally.”

The project was launched in response to the July 2024 World Health Organization report. It found that one in eleven people globally face hunger. In Africa and Haiti, the horrific figure is one in five face hunger.

That’s just the tip of food disparity horror. Nearly one half of children in Haiti suffer, malnutrition, an array of huger related diseases, and neglect. The UN and other support agencies are facing mountainous challenges in finding added funding sources to meet the devastating crisis.

“The right to have full access to healthy, nutritious food to sustain life and health is not just a right, but a necessity,” says Hutchinson, “When hunger takes the devastating toll it has on lives, we all lose.”
